Ebikes are easy enough to ride, which is why they’ve become so popular for short distance commutes. Despite that, there are some people who might really benefit from the mobility ebikes offer, but don’t find it as easy to maintain balance on two wheels. That Velotric Triker is a new electric trike aimed at that demographic.
Designed for aging and mobility-limited riders, the folding trike brings the same pedal assist convenience as traditional ebikes, albeit in a more stable tricycle form factor. This makes it a lot more accessible for the mobility-challenged, giving them an even easier option for getting around.
The Velotric Triker is equipped with a 750W motor (1300W peak) that produces 90 Nm of torque, giving it enough muscle to climb inclines of up to 15 degrees. There’s a seven-speed gear system, a thumb throttle for those times you don’t want to pedal, and a switch that lets you choose between torque and cadence sensors for pedal-assist. To the unfamiliar, torque sensors are the standard for many ebikes, allowing you to ride with a natural feel while adjusting the motor assistance based on how hard you pedal. Cadence, on the other hand, offers a steady motor assistance, making for a more leisurely ride. According to the outfit, it can achieve top speeds of up to 20 mph, although it can be electronically limited to lower speeds for riders who don’t like going too fast (as low as 2mph on Walk Mode and 8mph on Beginner Mode).
It has a frame geometry that’s custom-designed for its target demographic. As such, it offers a low 14.5-inch step through height for easily getting on and off, with an extended 26-inch seat-to-handlebar reach, allowing even shorter riders to get in a comfortable riding position. The seat looks wider than your standard saddle, too, complete with a backrest, ensuring an even more comfortable riding posture.
The Velotric Triker has a front suspension fork with 80mm of travel and lockout, while a rear differential allows each of the rear wheels to turn independently for smoother cornering. It uses 20-inch double-wall alloy rims wrapped in three-inch puncture-resistant tires, each of which comes with fenders to keep dirt and mud in check. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic discs with 180mm rotors, although it also offers motor cut-off and a parking brake to ensure it holds its ground. The bike can support payloads of up to 500 pounds.

The motor is powered by a UL-certified 16.75Ah battery that’s mounted behind the seatpost. According to the outfit, it’s rated to offer up to 60 miles of riding at the lowest pedal-assist level and 50 miles on pure motor power (no pedaling). It has a folding design, by the way, allowing it to collapse into a more compact size when you’re trying to squeeze it into the garage. Other features include a 3.5-inch color display out front (no need to use a bike computer), Bluetooth connectivity, Apple FindMy compatibility, a 400-lumen LED headlight, a braking taillight, a 100db horn, a rear basket for carrying cargo, and a total weight of 86 pounds.
The Velotric Triker is available now, priced at $2,399.
