The Best Gaming TVs for the PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles

We’ll be honest: this has not been the most exciting console generation. However, that doesn’t mean console gaming is dying anytime soon. If anything, it’s bound to heat up just a little more this year, with releases like Ghosts of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 slated to land in a few months. Not to mention, GTA 6 will make its grand debut on consoles later in the year, with a PC release not likely to happen until over 12 months later (maybe even longer). Do you really want to wait another year before getting to partake in the shenanigans of modern day Vice City? Suffice to say, it feels like a good time to go back to console gaming this year and pick up a good gaming TV to go along with it.

Whether you choose to do your gaming on a PS5 for the exclusives or the Xbox Series for the Game Pass access, the best gaming TVs will help you take full advantage of everything your gaming console has to offer. From ultra-sharp 4K and vibrant HDR colors to smooth high frame rate action and low latency performance, these superb TVs can deliver all the visual fidelity your game console has to offer, even accompanying it with rich and immersive sounds from their built-in speakers (unless, of course, you prefer pairing your TV with the best soundbars).

The best gaming TVs don’t necessarily have to be the most expensive. In fact, we’ve found plenty of good options in more affordable price ranges. However, more expensive models usually also bring more advanced features, which you might want to consider if you use your TV for much more than gaming, especially if you’re looking for something that can remain viable a few years down the line.

These are the best gaming TVs for the PS5 and Xbox Series. Do note, we opted to feature the 65-inch version of each model for the list, but larger and smaller models are available, too, if you’re looking for a different size of screen.

TCL Q6

Pros

  • Affordable price
  • Excellent picture clarity
  • Supports 120Hz at 1440p

Cons

  • Contrast not as good as others

Screen size: 65 inches (55, 75, and 85 inches also available)
Screen type: Mini-LED
Native refresh rate: 60Hz
HDMI ports: four HDMI 2.1 slots (including one eARC)

Our favorite sub-$500 gaming TV, this model lacks the advanced feature set of more expensive panels. Despite the limitations, it’s still a terrific gaming TV, with excellent 4K resolution that renders images exceptionally sharp with plenty of vibrant colors. Do note, it doesn’t have local dimming, so contrast isn’t as good as more expensive panels (the blacks just aren’t as dark as we’d prefer), but it’s good enough to render pretty immersive visuals for your favorite games. Refresh rate tops out at 60Hz, although it is equipped with variable refresh rate via AMD Freesync, so consoles can switch to 1440p gameplay for higher refresh rates (up to 120Hz) and lower input lag (from 16ms to around 8ms). Basically, you can trade resolution for better gaming performance, which is what you’d probably like to get when taking on fast-paced competitive games. This TV also comes with full HDR support, Dolby Atmos for improved sound, and Google TV for your more traditional TV viewing needs. It’s worth nothing that there are probably better TVs at the price point, but this is arguably the best you will get for gaming purposes.

Hisense U8N

Pros

  • Incredibly bright
  • Very high refresh rate
  • Dynamic colors with strong contrast

Cons

  • Google TV feels slow on this

Screen size: 65 inches (55, 75, and 85 inches also available)
Screen type: Mini-LED
Native refresh rate: 144Hz
HDMI ports: four HDMI ports (including one eARC)

This is, hands down, the brightest gaming TV we’ve seen at this price point. It has a listed brightness of 3,000 nits at peak and it doesn’t look like they’re inflating the numbers whatsoever. The TV creates a superbly bright image with equally pronounced contrast, courtesy of its 2,000 local dimming zones, making this just as good a TV for enjoying your favorite shows and movies. Sure, it doesn’t the match the depth of the black levels on more expensive TVs from LG and Samsung, but it’s downright amazing you can get a picture this good at this price point. Of course, we’re all here to talk about its gaming chops and it’s very capable on that end. It does 4K at up to 144Hz with variable refresh rate, so it can automatically adjust to whatever refresh rate the console delivers, while clocking in at around seven to eight milliseconds of input lag, making it extremely responsive. Do make sure you turn off Game Mode when you’re not playing, by the way, as it definitely causes clipping with very bright scenes when watching movies. Other notable features of this TV include full HDR support, a 50W five-speaker sound system, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Google TV.

Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini-LED

Pros

  • Balanced picture with great contrast
  • Seamless gaming experience
  • Best TV in Amazon’s lineup

Cons

  • Doesn’t cover the entire DCI-P3 color space

Screen size: 65 inches (55, 75, and 85 inches also available)
Screen type: Mini-LED
Native refresh rate: 120Hz
HDMI ports: four HDMI ports (including one eARC)

Still want to keep your gaming TV pretty affordable, but not a fan of the Google TV interface that’s pretty standard at the price range? Maybe, Amazon’s mini-LED TV will be more to your liking. Amazon calls it their “best TV for gaming” and we have to agree, as it delivers well under seven milliseconds of input lag, all while offering variable refresh rate up to 144Hz via AMD Freesync Premium Pro. Game visuals look terrific on the screen, with rich colors, tons of brightness, and satisfying levels of contrast, while the low input lag makes even the most fast-paced games feel very responsive. Image quality is really good, albeit not as good as the extremely bright Hisense model above, although the balanced color reproduction, strong contrast, and its ability to adapt to a room’s ambient settings does enable an enjoyable viewing experience.

LG OLED C4

Pros

  • Game dashboard makes fiddling with settings easy
  • HGiG support
  • Both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync onboard
  • Immersive sound

Cons

  • No HDR10+ support

Screen size: 65 inches (42, 48, 55, 77, and 83 inches also available)
Screen type: OLED
Native refresh rate: 120Hz
HDMI ports: four HDMI ports (including one eARC)

While LG does have even better gaming TVs (like the G4 below) than this one, we find this model to be particularly attractive due to its good combination of features and price. We love the fact that it automatically switches to Game Mode when it detects input from a game console, as well as the game dashboard that gives you easy access to the TV’s game-related settings. It supports HGiG, which ensures exceptional HDR performance for your console games, as well as Dolby Vision 4K at 120Hz, making this particularly suited to maximizing the visuals on modern game consoles. The TV has full support for both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, making this suitable for gaming not on just on consoles, but on PCs, too. Picture reproduction is superb, as is usually the case with LG’s OLED TVs, with balanced and natural colors, as well as impressively sharp details and amazing contrast. One element we really like here is the audio, which is a big upgrade from the C3 this model replaces. The onboard speakers deliver a weighty sound with very rich tones that make gaming on the TV even more immersive.

Samsung S95D

Pros

  • Exceptional brightness
  • Lifelike picture details
  • HGiG support

Cons

  • No Dolby Vision

Screen size: 65 inches (55 and 77 inches also available)
Screen type: QD-OLED
Native refresh rate: 120Hz
HDMI ports: Four HDMI ports (includign one eARC)

Now, this is one beautiful gaming TV with its ultra-slim lines, nearly non-existent bezels, and outstanding OLED panel. It makes outstanding pictures, too, with outstanding brightness that literally made us do a double-take the first time we saw it. Seriously, it just might be the brightest TV panel we’ve ever seen, delivering an intensity that makes the same things you’ve seen before feel entirely new. That brightness, of course, works hand in hand with OLED’s phenomenal contrast to make watching on it an absolute joy. It’s also a terrific gaming TV for consoles, allowing you to enjoy 4K 120Hz pretty seamlessly, with support for HGiG, ALLM, and VRR via AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. There’s also support for gaming in 144Hz if you hook it up to a PC, while the input lag clocks in at just under nine milliseconds, so your actions should reflect instantaneously onscreen. Overall, console gaming on this thing feels fast, smooth, and genuinely hitch-free, allowing you to really immerse in your game worlds, especially when combined with the TV’s outstanding visuals. It also includes the outfit’s Gaming Hub, including the very useful Game Bar at the bottom of the screen for quick access to various settings. The onboard 4.2.2 speaker delivers outstanding sound, too, with plenty of power (70W) on tap and a surprisingly effective object tracking system that tailors the sound with the action onscreen.

LG OLED G4

Pros

  • Plenty of gaming-specific features
  • Smooth game visuals
  • Immersive sound
  • Exceptional color accuracy

Cons

Screen size: 65 inches (55, 77, 83, and 97 inches also available)
Screen type: MLA-OLED
Native refresh rate: 120Hz
HDMI ports: Four HDMI ports (incuding one eARC)

This gaming TV gets all of the excellent gaming features available on the more affordable C4 model above. That means, you get 4K 120Hz console gaming, HGiG support for impeccable HDR colors, Dolby Vision, 144Hz PC gaming, the excellent Game Optimizer, and everything else. The input lag we measured is a tad higher than some other gaming TVs (over 12ms), although it’s still low enough that actions reflect instantaneously onscreen with no noticeable delays. So why not just get the C4? Well, you go for this one if you want overall better picture quality, as it delivers better brightness and even more stellar color reproduction that just looks more accurate compared to every other TV currently in the market. It also delivers better overall sound via the 4.2-channel speaker setup, which deliver an overall more immersive sound experience, especially when combined with the TV’s 11.1.2-channel upmixing tech (AI Sound Pro).
