There are plenty of things you can do to turn your backyard into a more interesting space. You can put tables, chairs, and even a playground for your kids. You can build a pool, put in a trampoline, or install a raised garden bed. As it turns out, you can even turn your backyard into an amusement park with the Magictecture Coaster in a Box.
That’s right, this kit lets you build a frickin’ roller coaster right in your backyard. No, you won’t be building hundred-foot tall monstrosities with steep drops, loops, and other crazy ride elements. Instead, it’s a more casual type of coaster to enjoy some of that amusement park feel without having to leave the confines of your abode.
The Magictecture Coaster in a Box is a literal roller coaster that can be shipped to your home and assembled piece-by-piece, allowing you to outfit your backyard with an erstwhile amusement park staple. Since it’s designed for regular households, it can’t be as big as the gigantic roller coasters you’re used to riding. Instead, it maxes out at 25 feet tall at the highest point, while taking up the floorspace of anywhere from a two-car garage with the smallest model to a four-car garage if you go for the biggest option.
It uses modular box tracks that, the outfit claims, can easily assembled by two people, so all you need is a friend to help you put the whole thing together. According to the outfit, the track can support weights of up to 500 pounds, so you can safely have a cart carrying two people across the tracks. How fast can it go, though? Turns out, it can go faster than most ebikes, topping out at speeds of up to 25 mph, so it can still make for a pretty thrilling ride.
The Magictecture Coaster in a Box is offered in three sizes. The small track offers 100 feet of modular box tracks and takes up 20 x 20 feet of space (that’s height x width, no word on depth), while the medium gives you 200 feet of tracks. The largest one gets you 300 feet of modular box tracks while taking up 25 x 50 feet of space. The tracks are designed to accommodate the outfit’s own karts, which comes in single-seater and dual-seater configurations. According to the outfit, each kart is self-propelled, although there’s no word on what kind of engine or motor it’s running on. For now, it’s probably fair to assume it’s running on electric motors with a rechargeable battery in tow.

Does the idea of installing your own roller coaster in the backyard sound ridiculous? Of course it does. If you have a large enough open space and a large enough bank account, though, it definitely offers one of the more unique ways to make your backyard feel like the local carnival. Now, if someone can just make a backyard Ferris wheel, then you can really go wild.
The Magictecture Coaster in a Box is now available for preorders. Price is set at $110,000, $165,000, and $220,000 for the small, medium, and large tracks respectively, while the small kart and the large kart cost another $85,000 and $120,000 respectively. Estimated wait time is three to four months, as each one is built upon ordering.
