Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro Takes the Outfit’s Electric Scooters to the Off-Road

Segway has made a lot of excellent electric scooters under the Ninebot brand over the years, from ones aimed at kids to speed demons aimed at adrenaline junkies. Despite the numerous models they’ve produced, though, it turns out the outfit has never released an off-roading variant. That changes with the new Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro.

Designed for off-road riding, the micromobility vehicle is packed with all sorts of technologies that make it perfectly suited to taking on more challenging terrains. From advanced suspension systems and integrated stability enhancements to extra grippy tires and intelligent traction control, this thing is designed to deliver a ride unlike any of the outfit’s previous releases.

The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro doesn’t look all that different from your typical electric scooter. Instead, you find the differences once you drill down to the details. For instance, it’s built around a carbon steel frame with a dual telescopic suspension system out front and a spring suspension system with a swingarm coil in the back, allowing it to deliver a smooth and stable ride even in the bumpy, rocky trails of the backcountry. It runs on 11-inch all-terrain tubeless tires that deliver excellent grip during steering or landing alike, while a six-inch ground clearance should let it ride over plenty of roots, rocks, and debris on the trail.

A 1,600-watt high-torque motor provides the necessary muscle, propelling it to speeds of up to 24.9 mph, which it can keep up for a maximum range of 18.6 miles before requiring a recharge. If you want to cover just a tad more distance than that, you can also opt for the slower eco mode, which extends the range to a whopping 43.5 miles, allowing you to stay on the trail for extended periods. Recharging the battery takes four hours, although you can also a 30-minute fast charge to quickly feed it enough juice for 6.2 miles of range.

The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro is equipped with a stability enhancement system designed to improve handling and ride dynamics, as well as a traction control system that reduces wheel slip, minimizes handlebar shake, and promotes overall better control. According to Segway, they’ve tested the ride for longevity, having put examples through 3,000 miles of pilot testing and 1,540-pound static pressure tests, ensuring it can handle anything the outdoors has to offer. Do note, it’s only IPX5 water resistant, so while you can plow through puddles and mud pretty safey, you’ll want to steer clear of water bodies that will actually end up submerging the darn thing.

It has dual disc brakes both front and rear, giving you formidable stopping power even when careening downhill, while having enough power to let the whole thing ride up 25 percent slopes. Other features include a sunlight-viewable three-inch screen display showing key ride metrics, a four-watt headlight, turn signaling both front and rear, a brake tail light, and an X-shaped running light out front. There’s also a companion mobile app, which you can use for Bluetooth-enabled unlocking for the vehicle, all while being compatible with Apple’s Find My, in the event you lose track of your electric scooter’s location.

The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro goes on preorder starting September 26, with deliveries slated to start in late October. No pricing has been announced yet.
