Samsung Movingstyle Offers Up a Challenger to LG’s Portable TV

We already have TVs that we can take wherever we go – they’re called tablets. However, some people do find those 11, 12, and 13 inches of screen real estate a bit too small for watching TV, especially when you’re used to the 65-inch TV in the living room. As such, we get solutions like LG’s StanbyME series, which are 27-inch TVs designed for easier portability that you can take from the bedroom to the living room to the kitchen and back. The Samsung Movingstyle is the outfit’s answer to LG’s portable TV.

Truth be told, it works a lot like LG’s solution. There’s a handle on top you can use to move it from room to room, as well as an integrated kickstand for propping it up on a desk. You can set it down flat on the coffee table much like a tablet, as well as mount it to a wheeled floor stand to put it at a comfortable elevated viewing angle. It also supports both landscape and portrait orientations, so you can use it to watch Instagram and TikTok, not just traditional TV shows.

The Samsung Movingstyle is, basically, a giant tablet, with a touchscreen that lets you tap and swipe on the UI. It has a 27-inch screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution (QHD), so you get more detail than 1080p, albeit not as much as on a 4K panel. They pair that resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, making this a viable screen for gaming, with support for HDR10+ content (no Dolby Vision HDR, though). You can connect to the TV via HDMI or USB-C, although it also gets built-in Wi-Fi for hopping onto your home network. It runs Samsung’s Tizen OS, by the way, which is, pretty much, the same software running on their smart TVs.

There’s no traditional remote here like your living room TV. Instead, you can use the touchscreen to interact with the interface, basically letting you use it like a giant tablet. Alternatively, you can control it with voice commands (supports Bixby and Alexa) and gesture controls via Samsung’s Galaxy Watch models.

The Samsung Movingstyle has a two-channel 10W speaker system, so you don’t need to carry a speaker around when using it. There’s also Bluetooth audio support if you prefer wearing headphones while watching your favorite brainrot content on YouTube. It comes with support for Dolby Atmos, the outfit’s Adaptive Sound tech, and Samsung’s Active Voice Amplifier to ensure spoken dialog always comes through loud and clear.

Like LG’s portable TV, this one has an onboard battery, allowing you to use it untethered for brief stretches of time. In Samsung’s case, that will be around three hours of viewing time between charges, so you might want to have an outlet nearby, in case that battery level starts going down. Other features include a Sketch Now app that lets you draw onscreen whenever you feel like doodling, Samsung TV Plus, support for Samsung digital Art Store if you want to use it like a portable picture frame, Google Cast support, and Apple Airplay support.

The Samsung Movingstyle is available now, priced at $1,199.99.
