Rad Power Bikes makes some of the best ebikes out in the market. Whether you’re looking for a city commuter, a cargo ebike, or a fun off-roader, they have some of the best offerings in each of those categories in their lineup. What they’ve never made, though, is a high-speed Class 3 ebike. That changes now with the Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Max.
To the unfamiliar, the Radrunner is, basically, the outfit’s bestselling utility bike. As the “Max” in the name implies, this new edition takes everything up a notch, with the ebike allowing you to ride faster, stay on the road longer, and carry heavier payloads, all while packing a whole load of new tech for greater safety and comfort.
The Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Max is a cargo ebike with a step-through frame, fat tires, and a generous amount of storage space in both front and rear. It runs on a 750W rear hub motor that can propel to it pedal-assist speeds of up to 28 mph, although riders have the option to electronically-limit it to 20 mph for complying with local regulations in their area. There’s a half-twist grip throttle listed on the specs, so we guess there’s an option to ride it pedal-free, although we’re not sure if that should be available for a Class 3 ebike. It comes with five pedal-assist levels, so it can offer more or less assistance, depending on what you need, all while being able to put out a maximum torque of 66 pound-feet.
The motor is powered by the outfit’s Safe Shield battery, which houses the cells in a heat-absorbing resin to protect against corrosion and overheating. Housing a 672Wh battery pack, the ebike is able to deliver up to 65 miles of range at the lowest pedal assist level, with an optional range extender able to extend that to 125 miles for longer-range rides.
The Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Max has a maximum payload of 420 pounds, including up to 275 pounds for the rider, with the rear rack able to support up to 120 pounds of cargo. If the rear rack isn’t enough, you can also add an optional basket out front, allowing you to load up a hefty amount of stuff. The Exsho suspension fork offers up to 80mm of travel, while 20-inch rims wrapped in 3.5-inch wide tires provide a smooth ride, whether you’re taking your small kids to school or doing a beer run for a party at your home.

It’s the outfit’s first ebike with built-in rear radar detection (it’s integrated into the rear lights), allowing it to detect both motorists and cyclists from up to 330 feet behind, as well as passcode-protected security and personalized service alerts. Other features include a color display out front, IPX6 water-resistance rating, a 450-lumen LED headlight (with 750-lumen high beam), an eight-speed Shimano gearset, hydraulic brakes, moped-style saddle with heavy padding, a built-in torque sensor (so you can see how much torque is being generated), and Apple Find My compatibility.
The Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Max is available now, priced at $2,299.
