Mooncat Star Wars Lacquer Set Paints the Colors of the Galactic Empire on Your Nails

We’ll admit, we didn’t think much of it when we heard about the Mooncat Star Wars Lacquer Set. How exciting can a Star Wars-themed nail polish be? We have to say, though, we’re thoroughly impressed with just how nice nail polish can look when drawing inspiration from a galaxy far, far away.

According to the outfit, the collection is inspired by the iconic and menacing figures of the Dark Side, so this is all about that Imperial swag. We’re talking Vader, the Death Star, and those goofy Stormtroopers serving as muses for this collection, allowing you to celebrate the First Galactic Empire by painting their colors on your nails.

The Mooncat Star Wars Lacquer Set comes with seven different types of nail polish, namely Lord Vader, Death Star, A Galaxy Far Far Away, Dawn of the Empire, Star Destroyer, Imperial Stormtrooper, and Scum and Villainy. Each one comes in a small 12ml bottle, with Vader’s iconic helmet printed on it, just so you know who this entire collection is about. What makes the lacquer work as a Star Wars-themed product, though, is the clever use of glitter and magnetic pigments that allow them to cover your nails in all sorts of designs that work perfectly with the Star Wars sci-fi aesthetic.

Lord Vader, for instance, takes on a color based on the red kyber crystal, with magnetic pigments that can be lined up into a stripe that harkens the glow of a lightsaber. You’ll need to use the included magnetic wand when applying the nail polish to achieve this effect, by the way, otherwise the pigments will be scattered into a velvety haze, which, we’ll be honest, still looks nice. Death Star, on the other hand, takes on the textured color of the gargantuan ship’s exterior, combining silver magnetic pigments with a silver holo shimmer. It’s quite the wild-looking color to see on your nails.

The Mooncat Star Wars Lacquer Set’s A Galaxy Far Far Away delivers a more general space theme, almost looking like one of those post-edited full-color NASA photographs of space. It’s made using black magnetic lacquer that’s mixed with holographic glitter and iridescent flakies in red and blue colors. Dawn of the Empire, on the other hand, combines a deep black lacquer with red magnetic pigments, while the Star Destroyer gives you an icy blue and silver metallic flakie lacquer with tiny holographic glitters that look absolutely like a disco ball when painted on your nails.

While we expected the Imperial Stormtrooper nail polish to be unflinchingly white, they actually went the other way, doing a black-to-light gray thermal magnetic lacquer that can be adorned with a bright silver magnetic stripe. Seriously, we don’t get the Stormtrooper connection, but it’s nice. Lastly, the Scum and Villainy nail polish combines a dark brown lacquer with bronze colored flakies and a sandy beige magnetic pigment, creating a sobering space-like image without all the bright and popping colors.

The Mooncat Star Wars Lacquer Set contains one bottle each of all seven lacquers, priced at $111. You can also buy each one individually for $16.
