About two years, LG released a TV in a briefcase that you can use to watch stuff on the big screen on the go. It was quite ridiculous. At CES 2025, the outfit proceeded to show off their follow-up, which eliminated the briefcase, while giving the TV its own kickstand and carrying strap. Called the LG StanbyME 2, that highly-unusual portable TV is now rolling out to global markets.
A 27-inch TV, it gives you a big enough screen for enjoying shows and movies on the go, all while being able to easily set up wherever you decide to plop down. How portable is it? As you can imagine, it’s going to feel like lugging a 27-inch TV around, which isn’t great compared to carrying a regular portable monitor, but it does give an option for those who want a sizeable screen they can use without a power outlet on the fly.
The LG StanbyME 2 is a 27-inch TV with QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) and a 60Hz refresh rate, so while it’s pretty small for a living room TV, it does seem like an ideal size for a desktop monitor. It uses the outfit’s Alpha 8 AI processor to intelligently optimize picture quality based on ambient lighting, complete with Dolby Vision support for more cinematic visuals. The device has a touchscreen interface, by the way, so you can use it like a tablet, instead of having to reach for a remote each time out.
It comes with built-in 5W speakers on either side (10W total), so it can blast the audio without needing to pair separate speakers, with an algorithm that automatically optimizes the EQ settings based on the screen’s orientation. That’s right, you can use this to watch portrait content meant for smartphones. Heck, you can even set it down flat for use in “table” mode.
The LG StanbyME 2 can be mounted onto a wheeled charging stand, which would be ideal if you want to keep it inside a room, as well as straps you can attach for hanging it on the wall. For on the go use, it comes with a kickstand that can be quickly deployed for propping it up on a table. In all three modes, by the way, the TV can be set up in either landscape or portrait orientation. The TV is fitted with a built-in rechargeable battery rated at up to four hours of viewing between charges, making it reasonably viable as a portable TV option. And yes, it supports USB-C charging from a power bank, so you can charge it on the fly.

It runs LG’s WebOS smart platform, so you get easy access to all sorts of streaming apps. Based on the product photos, they seem to be promoting it as a way to play digital board games, although we’re not sure if those are WebOS apps or they are being ran from somewhere else. You can connect it to media sources via an HDMI port (with eARC support), as well as via AirPlay or Google Cast, while the USB ports support webcams for video chats.
The LG StanbyME 2 comes out later in the month. No pricing has been announced yet.
