We’re big fans of portable Bluetooth speakers that can be easily integrated into various gear and equipment, such as the JBL Clip and JBL Go’s padlock-style form factor. Sadly, there isn’t a lot of them that incorporate a similar compact size and integrated mount. As such, we pay attention whenever a new one comes around and that’s exactly what we’re getting with the Ultimate Ears Miniroll.
Billed as the outfit’s smallest and most portable Bluetooth speaker, the puck-sized device comes with a mounting strap in the back that makes it easy to attach it to objects of all sorts. Want to attach it to your electric bike’s handlebar, so you can pump out tunes while riding? Not a problem. Secure it to a tent pole when camping, attach it to a backpack strap when hiking, or even mount it to your watch strap, so you have music playing from your wrist at all times.
The Ultimate Ears Miniroll measures 4.8 x 1.9 inches (diameter x thickness), making this a small enough speaker to fit in many pockets, while the integrated plastic strap in the back makes it easy to mount on all sorts of items. It’s equipped with a single 45.6mm active driver and one passive radiator, a combo that produces a sound the outfit describes as “crisp, clear, and bassy.” Yeah, they’re putting some heavy emphasis on the “bassy” part, as it seems to be a big selling point for this tiny thing.
It has physical controls right on the speaker, with large volume buttons on front and a multi-purpose button on the side for all other functions (playback, power, and pairing), making it very convenient to use. Battery life is impressive, too, boasting up to 12 hours of playtime (likely at medium volume settings, though), so you can enjoy your tunes for a good part of the day. Recharging takes just over two and a half hours using the included 5V adapter.
The Ultimate Ears Miniroll built for outdoor use, with a sealed construction that leaves it IP67-rated against water and dust, while also shrugging off drops of up to four feet. According to the outfit, it can even be immersed in around three feet of water for up to 30 minutes, so you can safely use this waterproof Bluetooth speaker around the pool without any worries. It has a Bluetooth range of up to 130 feet, too, so you don’t have to keep it close by at all times if you want to move around.
It supports Auracast, by the way, allowing to pair with unlimited compatible speakers if you need to create a bigger sound. Do note, the maximum sound pressure level is only 80.5 dB, so you’ll definitely want to pair a number of these together for bigger outdoor gatherings. From the product page, it doesn’t seem like it will work with any companion app, which is nice for folks who just want a speaker they can use on its own without requiring another app to clutter your phone.
The Ultimate Ears Miniroll is available in black, blue, gray, and pink colors.
