Solo Windchill 47 Turns the Rotomolded Cooler Into a Mobile AC

We know Solo Stove for their smokeless firepits, which make getting toasty in the backyard a far less messy affair. However, the outfit has also been expanding their product lineup in the last few years, putting out related items such as a pizza stove and a popcorn maker. This time around, they’re doing something very different with the Solo Windchill 47.

Billed as a “cooler and mobile A/C,” the summer accessory lets you keep a generous supply of drinks within easy reach, much like any cooler. Except, this one has a built-in “mobile A/C” system that allows it to pull hot air in, cool it via the ice-filled main compartment, and push it back out as dry, cold air.

The Solo Windchill 47 is a hard-sided rolling cooler with all-terrain wheels for easily moving it around from one spot to another, as well as a telescoping handle for towing it like a travel suitcase. There are also side grips if you need to lift it up to a table or the boot of a car. According to the outfit, the main compartment is large enough to hold up to 65 cans, allowing you to pack enough refreshments to tide a whole party over. It keeps them cool for a long time, too, with the outfit claiming ice retention of up to six days, so you can take it along for multi-day trips.

Of course, what makes it special is the mobile A/C component. First off, there’s no compressor here, so it doesn’t cool things down like a normal A/C. Instead, it has a built-in heat exchange system that takes hot air from outside, removes the heat by chilling it in the main compartment, and pushing it back out at much lower temperatures. An integrated flexible vent hose allows you to point the cold air towards any direction, so you can aim it straight at you when you need to cool down from the heat.

The Solo Windchill 47 also incorporates a three-speed fan for speeding up the cool air delivery, as well as a misting pump for adding some moisture in the air. And yes, you can use the fan on its own without engaging the heat exchanger, so it can just blow uncooled air like any fan you have at home. They offer two battery options, 10 Ah and 17Ah. According to the outfit, the 10Ah lets you run it fan only at the low speed setting for up to 9.5 hours, while the 17Ah keeps it running in the same setting for 16.2 hours. It also comes with a power adapter, in case you have a power outlet nearby for continuous cooling. Do note, using it as a mobile A/C doesn’t just drain the battery, it thaws the ice faster, too, so much so, in fact, that the cooler only stays chilled for five hours if you keep the A/C running continuously. Other features include power bank functionality (it has USB-C and USB-A ports), optional drink holders, and an optional side table.

The Solo Windchill 47 is available now, priced at $649.99.
