Insta360 Go 3 Upgrades The Thumb-Sized Action Cam With 2.7K Video, Voice Commands, And A Charging Case

Four years ago, Insta360 took the tech from their 360-degree cameras and injected it into a thumb-sized action cam, turning out an incredibly compact device you can mount, pretty much, anywhere you want. The third-generation Insta360 Go 3 retains the same convenient form factor, all while packing in a lot more functionality into its lightweight frame.

Like the first two iterations, the action cam is literally thumb-sized, making it small enough that you can mount it on the back strap of your favorite baseball cap. Unlike them, it now comes with its own “Action Pod,” which is basically a GoPro-sized case that houses a display and button controls, allowing you to dock the action cam and use it like a more conventional camera for those times where that form factor becomes more convenient. Very handy.

The Insta360 Go 3 can shoot 2.7K video at 30 fps, an upgrade from the 1440p max resolution of its second-gen predecessor. It also supports 1440p and 1080p at 50 fps, as well as 1080p slow motion recording at 120 fps, so you can use this to shoot fast-paced action videos that you can slow down to really dial in on the events of every frame. The outfit’s FlowState Stabilization is onboard, which eliminates shakes, bumps, and rolls electronically for perfectly stable video, along with 360-degree Horizon Lock, which maintains the orientation, no matter what kind of movements you perform, ensuring perfectly watchable footage every time.

To start shooting, you simply press the button in front of the camera, then press it again to turn off, allowing you to quickly capture a moment when it happens. It also supports voice commands via the two onboard mics, so you can start and stop recording without having to use your hands, which could come handy when you’ve got your hands busy (like when you’re riding a motorcycle).

The Insta360 Go 3 has a magnetic body that allows you to simply snap it onto ferromagnetic surfaces for easy mounting, as well as clip accessory that lets you attach it to clothes, hats, and even your dog’s collar. There’s also a pivot stand you can mount on objects for shooting at creative angles and a tripod mount that you can use with any compatible accessories (e.g. monopods, handheld gimbals). The camera is IPX8 rated for waterproofing, allowing you to submerge it in depths of up to 16 feet without any troubles, while the onboard battery allows you to shoot up to 45 minutes’ worth of footage between charges.

You can charge the device via the included Action Pod, which holds another 125 minutes’ worth of charge for 170 minutes total. Not only can you dock the action cam in there to charge it, you can also use it to give the erstwhile thumb-sized camera a GoPro-like form factor, complete with a 2.2-inch flip-up touchscreen where you can get a live view of what’s in the frame or watch previous recorded footage.

The Insta360 Go 3 is available now with three options in storage capacity: 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
